Banners expressing support for political leaders from Tamil Nadu have been displayed in several areas of Jaffna ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election.

With the election scheduled for today (23), all campaign activities in Tamil Nadu officially concluded yesterday evening. Despite this, banners supporting various political parties and leaders have appeared in Jaffna, reflecting continued public interest in political developments across the Palk Strait.

Banners featuring Seeman, Chief Coordinator of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, were seen in prominent locations, including the Jaffna Public Library and the Jaffna District Secretariat.

At the same time, similar banners showing support for Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as well as the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), were also displayed in several parts of the city.

The presence of these banners highlights the close cultural and social ties between northern Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, where political developments often attract attention beyond national borders.
