Dilith challenges AKD’s travel expenses

The leader of the Sarvajana Balaya, MP Dilith Jayaweera, has raised concerns over the foreign travel expenses of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, which was revealed in Parliament by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuirya on Thursday (27).

Jayaweera challenged the figures, calling them unrealistic and questioned how President Dissanayake managed to visit three countries on a mere Rs. 1.8 million.

Making a statement in Parliament, Jayaweera criticized the government’s claim of reduced foreign travel costs, stating that even if the President had traveled on the “footboard,” the expenses reported seemed highly improbable.

“The Prime Minister claims foreign travel costs have been reduced. I don’t know how he traveled to three countries with such a low amount,” Jayaweera remarked.

The President’s official foreign visits, which included trips to India, China, and the UAE, have raised questions regarding the accuracy of the reported figures.

Noting that cutting costs alone does not generate profits, he urged the government to also focus on increasing revenue to stabilize the economy.
