In a candid admission at a recent public meeting, Deputy Minister of Housing, T.B. Sarath, asserted that the NPP’s victory in the last election was not the result of growing public support, but rather a reflection of widespread dissatisfaction with the two dominant political parties.

The Deputy Minister expressed his belief that the NPP’s success was primarily driven by voters’ frustration with the opposition, rather than any particular admiration for the party’s policies or leadership.

“Didn’t we win the last election because the people were fed up with those two parties?” Sarath remarked during the event. “Because they were disgusted by them. Not because people perceive us as better. It was hatred that became a vote, not love and kindness,” he added.

The Deputy Minister’s statement has sparked conversation and controversy, raising questions about the NPP’s future strategy and its reliance on anti-establishment sentiment.
