President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to hold a special discussion today with members of five independent groups that secured seats in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) during the recent local government elections.

The meeting is expected to focus on gathering support for the National People’s Power (NPP) to establish administrative control over the CMC, considered to be the most politically significant local bodies in the country.

A total of nine councillors from five independent groups were elected to the CMC, emerging as potential powerbrokers in determining control of the council.
