The United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have announced an agreement to collaborate in administering local government bodies where the Opposition holds a majority.

The move was confirmed in a joint statement issued today and signed by UNP General Secretary Thalatha Atukorale and SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara.

According to the statement, the two parties will also seek to work with other Opposition-aligned groups to form administrations in local councils across the country where they collectively outnumber the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) or other government-aligned factions.
