Former MP Champika Ranawaka stated that the government plans to raise electricity tariffs after May 6 to cover the losses incurred due to the recent nationwide power outage.

He also claimed that the loss suffered by the Ceylon Electricity Board as a result of the outage amounts to approximately Rs. 8.3 billion.

Ranawaka further stated that investigations into the incident confirmed that the power outage was not caused by a monkey, but despite this, the burden of the losses has fallen on the people.

He made these remarks while addressing a public meeting in the Godagama area of Homagama.
