Farmers are being unfair – Deputy Agriculture Minister

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karanarathna states that there is no fair intervention from the farmers in naming a guaranteed price for paddy.

He says that instructions have been given to calculate the cost of production considering that the fertilizer subsidy was not received in full.

However, he says that the cost of production per kilo of paddy has been calculated both as if the fertilizer subsidy was received and as if the fertilizer subsidy was not received.

Karunarathna also said that there was some difference in the cost calculation in the two cases and said that in the future, the most fair guaranteed price of paddy in history will be announced for farmers after considering all of them.

He expressed these views in a program held on Derana TV.
