Former Western Provincial Councilor Salochana Gamage and another entrepreneur were taken into custody by the Bribery Commission in Pitakotte over an alleged Rs. 9 million bribery case.

The Commission reported that the duo was apprehended while reportedly receiving the bribe from a businessman in a restaurant at Pita Kotte.

The bribe was allegedly offered to expedite the payment of compensation for a plot of land belonging to a relative of the complainant. The land had been seized by the Urban Development Authority.

The Bribery Commission further disclosed that the suspects intended to leverage their influence to accelerate the compensation procedure.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
