Jaffna lawyers protest illegal police raid

Lawyers in Jaffna staged a strike yesterday (07) in protest against an unlawful police entry and search of a colleague’s residence without a court warrant.

The protest follows allegations that police officers, conducting an investigation into a high-profile land deed fraud case implicating several local lawyers, entered the home of an accused lawyer without judicial authorisation.

Police reportedly aimed to arrest the lawyer and carried out a search operation during the raid.

The lawyers accused the police of breaching legal procedures by failing to secure a warrant before entering the premises, an action they say violates constitutional safeguards.

Lawyers gathered outside courthouses across Jaffna to condemn the police conduct and demand respect for due process.
