List of MPs who claimed compensation for property damages during Aragalaya

Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa made a special revelation in Parliament today (06) regarding 43 politicians who had obtained compensation claiming destruction was caused to their homes during the “Aragalaya” in 2022.

Accordingly, the total amount of compensation received by these 43 individuals is Rs. 1.22 billion.

Dr. Jayatissa told Parliament that they have claimed large amounts by influencing government officials to overestimate damages caused to their houses.

“If a farmer suffers damage, how difficult must it be to get compensation? However, these individuals exerted pressure on government officials to receive the compensation amount they did. This is the political situation in our country,” he added.

The list of MPs who received compensation are as follows:

  • Kapila Nuwan Athukorale – Rs. 504,000
  • Wimalaweera Dissanayake – Rs. 550,000
  • Geetha Kumarasinghe – Rs. 972,000
  • Janaka Tissakuttiarachchi – Rs. 1.14 million
  • Gunapala Rathnasekara – Rs. 1.41 million
  • Premnath Dolawatta – Rs. 2.3 million
  • Priyankara Jayaratna – Rs. 2.34 million
  • Sampath Athukorale – Rs. 2.54 million
  • Jayanta Ketagoda – Rs. 2.81 million
  • Wimal Weerawansa – Rs. 2.95 million
  • Professor Channa Jayasumana – Rs. 3.34 million
  • Akila Ellawala – Rs. 3,55 million
  • Chamal Rajapaksa – Rs. 6.53 million
