Fuel distributors across the country have gathered outside the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo to hand over a letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Distributors have raised serious concerns after the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) announced plans to abolish the 3% commission paid to distributors.

The Petroleum Dealers’ Association is demanding the government agree to the commission amount that was previously promised to them.

Angered by the decision to abolish the commission from 1 March, distributors began halting fuel distribution, triggering long queues at filling stations.

According to the Petroleum Distributors’ Association, fuel stations have not placed further orders in the last 48 hours due to the ongoing dispute.

The Association’s Vice President, Kusum Sandanayake, said that they have refrained from placing any orders until they receive a fair solution to their concerns.
