Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has announced that he will bring forward a Private Member’s Motion if the government fails to act against the misuse of parliamentary privileges for spreading false information in Parliament.

Rajapaksa emphasized that parliamentary privileges, which are meant to address the concerns of the people, are being misused to spread misinformation.

He expressed concern over the growing number of falsehoods being presented, stating that this misuse must be corrected.

“If the government does not take action, I will introduce a Private Member’s Motion to address the issue,” Rajapaksa said, adding that those who oppose dishonesty in Parliament would support the motion.

He further challenged Parliament members, saying, “Let us see how many of the 225 Members of Parliament oppose lying in Parliament. If we speak the truth, we do not need such a privilege. I do not require it. I will never make claims about actions I have not taken, promises I cannot fulfill, or engage in character assassination—whether inside or outside Parliament.”
