Power minister Kumara Jayakody and the ministry secretary have clashed over granting a service extension to the director general of the power sector reforms secretariat H.P. Niroshan.

The secretary extended Niroshan’s tenure without informing the minister, who was abroad at the time.

The service extension letter noted he was doing so on the instructions of the subject minister.

However, Jayakody cancelled the service extension upon his return, writing to the ministry secretary that he rejected his action which he had done without informing him.
