Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that the main reason for the shortage of coconuts in this country is the large-scale export of coconuts by the Expo Lanka company owned by the Governor of the Western Province.

He alleged that the dollars earned from the sale of the coconuts are credited to a bank account in Dubai and are not brought to Sri Lanka.

Weerawansa made these comments while addressing a media conference held in Colombo.
