Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena has dismissed fears that printing money will drive inflation in Sri Lanka, insisting that the government’s economic policies are successfully stabilizing the country’s finances.
Speaking to the media following the relaunch of buses imported in 2014 with new engines, Dr. Gunasena argued that currency printing is conducted in line with the nation’s economic requirements and is not inherently inflationary.
“Currency notes printing is carried out according to the economic needs of the country. It happens every year,” he said.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that the income-expenditure gap has narrowed by over 33% in the past six months, while state revenue increased nearly 25% compared to the first half of last year.
