India has responded with a focused and proportionate military action following an attempted escalation by Pakistan late on the night of May 7, targeting Indian military installations across the northern and western sectors. The Indian Armed Forces clarified today that their measured response, under Operation SINDOOR, remains within the bounds of restraint and is aimed solely at deterring further aggression.
At a press briefing held on Wednesday, Indian officials stated that the country’s military had deliberately avoided targeting Pakistani military establishments in its initial response. However, it was also made clear that any attack on Indian military assets would invite an appropriate response.
In the early hours of May 8, Pakistan attempted to strike multiple military locations in India — including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj — using drones and missiles. These threats were swiftly neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Grid and air defence units.
“The debris recovered from various locations is conclusive proof of Pakistan’s attempted aggression,” defence sources confirmed.
In a carefully calibrated response earlier today, Indian Armed Forces targeted and neutralised several Pakistani air defence systems, including a radar installation in Lahore. Defence officials emphasized that India’s response was executed in the same operational domain and with equivalent intensity, signalling a strong but contained retaliation.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has stepped up unprovoked mortar and artillery shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), with intense fire reported in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
Tragically, sixteen civilians — including three women and five children — have lost their lives in the shelling. India was compelled to retaliate to suppress Pakistani fire and prevent further civilian casualties.
Indian defence authorities reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, stressing that peace in the region is possible only if Pakistan exercises similar restraint. “Our actions are defensive in nature, and we will continue to act in a manner that ensures the safety and sovereignty of the nation,” the official statement read.
