The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has taken steps to freeze several bank accounts and luxury vehicles belonging to Rakitha Rajapakshe, the son of former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.

According to reports, the action has been taken under the provisions of the Proceeds of Crime Act, No. 5 of 2025, in connection with an ongoing investigation.

A senior official of CIABOC has confirmed that the assets had been frozen as part of investigations into allegations involving Rakhitha.

The investigation relates to allegations that Rs. 120 million was demanded and obtained as a bribe from the wife of an organised criminal in exchange for facilitating assistance to the criminal.

The CIABOC had previously reported facts to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court in connection with the alleged bribery incident.

Rakitha was named as the first suspect in the case, while Charitha Abeysinghe and Waruna Handige Aruna Chathuranga were named as the second and third suspects, respectively.

The three suspects were previously remanded in custody and have since been released on bail.

Meanwhile, a team of CIABOC officials had visited Rakitha Rajapakshe’s residence in Nawala today (29) to deliver an official notice regarding the freezing of his bank accounts and vehicles.
