LG polls: Ranjith indicates possible alliance with UNP

General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that the SJB will contest the upcoming local government elections together with the United National Party (UNP).

MP Madduma Bandara said that the discussions held with the UNP in this regard have been successful and the progress of these talks will be announced to the country soon.

Noting that the two parties are currently discussing how to contest the elections, he indicated that they will contest against the government as a broad alliance.

The General Secretary said that he will announce the symbol under which the party will contest the elections and the alliances in the future.

He highlighted that the primary objective of this merger is to achieve victory against the government and that discussions are ongoing regarding the preparation of nominations and related matters.

Noting that public opposition to the government is increasing, he said that the grassroots of the ruling NPP will be fractured after the upcoming local government elections.

He further stated that a successful negotiation between UNP and SJB is a victory for the people.
