Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP, Mujibur Rahman, raised serious allegations in Parliament regarding the awarding of a government audit tender.

Rahman claimed that the tender was granted to a company owned by Presidential Advisor Duminda Hulangamuwa.

He further alleged that a second tender was called and awarded to the same company after the original tender file had been misplaced.

In response, Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe defended the government’s actions, clarifying that there were no procedural violations in awarding the audit contract to Hulangamuwa’s company.

Samarasinghe emphasized that contracts are awarded to any qualified company, irrespective of ownership, underscoring that due diligence had been followed in the process.

“There was no breach of procedures in awarding the contract. Any company that meets the qualifications can obtain a contract,” said Samarasinghe.

The Minister also pointed out that several government contracts have been granted to companies owned by members of the current Parliament, but declined to name them, citing confidentiality.
