United National Party (UNP) councillor-elect Ramsi Tony has refused to support the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) Colombo mayoral nominee Riza Zarook.

Writing to the party’s general secretary, Tony said that he cannot go against his conscience and vote for a corrupt and fraudulent person like Zarook, who still owes Rs. 17 million to the CMC.

He said he was well aware of the conduct of Zarook as a CMC councillor in the past and also about his image in the eyes of the people.

Tony said further that time still remains to negotiate with the SJB to get a suitable person elected as the mayor.

In a video, he explained his stand further, stressing that his 25 years of commitment against fraud and corruption would go waste if he voted for Zarook.
