The United National Party (UNP) has decided to contest for the municipal councils of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, and Nuwara Eliya under the ‘Elephant’ symbol in the upcoming local government elections.

This decision was taken at the working committee meeting held yesterday (14) at party headquarters ‘Sirikotha’.

The working committee also green lit efforts to form a coalition with other political parties and to contest under a suitable symbol for the remaining local councils.

It is reported that a final decision regarding this is expected to be made before February 20.
