The Sri Lankan women’s baseball team etched its name in history with a commanding 13-0 win over Iran, securing the nation’s first-ever international victory at the Asian Women’s Baseball Championship Qualifiers in Bangkok yesterday.

After a quiet first inning with both teams failing to score, Sri Lanka broke the deadlock in the second inning with three runs, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Building on their momentum, they added two more runs in the third before unleashing a dominant offensive display in the fourth inning, where they racked up eight additional runs to seal the emphatic win.

This landmark victory comes in their second Group ‘A’ match, following a 14-4 defeat to India in their tournament opener on April 23. Sri Lanka will complete their preliminary round fixtures today with a crucial encounter against Pakistan.

The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups, with the top four teams earning a spot in the upcoming Asian Women’s Baseball Championship in Hong Kong. The next round of matches is slated to begin on April 27.
