No specific date to end power cuts, says cabinet spokesperson

Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa says that it is not possible to provide a specific date to end power cuts.

He said that initial investigations have revealed that the island-wide power outage has occurred due to an imbalance in the national power grid.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to take strong measures to prevent such a situation from happening again, as a nationwide power cut would cause great damage to the country’s economy.

Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) states that there will be no power cut today due in observance of the Nawam Full Moon Poya day.

The CEB also said that a statement will be made regarding any further power interruptions tomorrow morning (13).

Its spokesman Dhammika Wimalarathana expressed that a final decision on whether any further power cuts will be implemented or not, will be reached as the restoration activities of Norochcholai Coal Power Plant is currently underway.
