Decline in marriage rates

A survey conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics has revealed that the number of marriages has decreased in the past five years.

According to data reports released by the department, it is clear that the trend of marriage registrations has declined since 2018.

However, despite this decline, more than 170,000 marriages were registered in 2022.

The department also noted that the lowest number of marriages in the last 23 years occurred in 2020, with 143,061 marriages registered that year.

Inquiries made by various parties have revealed that factors such as current economic pressures, past experiences, and family responsibilities have caused the younger generation to lose interest in marriage.

Surveys targeting the younger population have also shown that marriage is being further postponed due to insufficient income to meet family needs, with unemployment playing a significant role in discouraging marriage.
