The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is expected to announce its final decision on the proposed electricity tariff revision for the fourth quarter of 2026 next week, following public consultations scheduled for today (5).
PUCSL Director of Communications Jayanath Herath has said the Commission would consider views and submissions made by electricity consumers, industry representatives and other stakeholders before reaching its final determination.
The National System Operator (NSO) has proposed a 2.88% increase in electricity tariffs for the final quarter of this year. However, following its preliminary assessment, the PUCSL has recommended a lower increase of 1.46%.
The competing proposals have placed the focus on today’s public consultation, which will provide an opportunity for consumer organisations and other stakeholders to present their views on the proposed adjustment.
The oral public consultation will be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
More than 40 representatives from consumer groups and organisations in the electricity sector have registered to make submissions during the proceedings.
Herath has said the Commission had already completed its preliminary assessment and published a consultation paper outlining its observations on the NSO’s proposal for public consideration.
The final determination will be made after evaluating the submissions received during the consultation, he has said.
The decision is expected to be announced during the second week of November and will determine the electricity tariff structure applicable for the fourth quarter of 2026.
