Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa (GR) has filed an appeal petition before the Supreme Court challenging a Court of Appeal ruling that dismissed his writ application seeking to prevent his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The petition seeks to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss his application for an order preventing his arrest under the PTA over the ongoing investigations.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and several others have been named as respondents in the appeal.

The Supreme Court is now being asked to consider the challenge to the Court of Appeal ruling.

The development comes amid continuing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, which killed more than 250 people and injured hundreds more. The attacks targeted churches and hotels across Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019.
