Holding a secret vote at a time like this is highly questionable, since it disputes the ethical side of politics as well, he said in a video circulated on the Internet.
Especially in a secret vote, people’s representatives cannot choose a candidate according to their conscience, said Prof. Dewasiri.
With a tradition of buying people’s representatives deeply rooted in the country, the government cannot prove otherwise by denying it in the matter of the Colombo mayor, he said.
