Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ajith Rajapakse has made a striking appeal, calling for the preservation of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s body for public display following his eventual demise.
Speaking to the media, Rajapakse emphasized that the former president’s role in ending Sri Lanka’s 30-year civil war deserves recognition of such a significant nature to honor his legacy for future generations.
Rajapakse drew comparisons to historical figures like Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin and Vietnamese revolutionary Ho Chi Minh, whose bodies have been preserved for public viewing in their respective countries.
He argued that Sri Lanka should offer the same honour to Mahinda Rajapaksa, who he described as a pivotal figure in the nation’s history.
Additionally, Rajapakse expressed concern that the current government is attempting to diminish the former president’s legacy and urged authorities to ensure that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s contributions are respected and protected.
