Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa said the current government is trying to make people forget other issues in the country by making various speeches.

Noting that the country cannot be governed by words alone, he said the government should properly respond to the problems of the people.

Weerawansa made these remarks while participating in a press conference held at the party headquarters in Battaramulla yesterday (21).

With regard to the digital NIC project to be initiated with India, the former MP said that there is a risk of the data falling into the hands of other external parties.

Highlighting that Sri Lanka does not require digital identity cards at the moment, he said that getting an Indian company to do this project cannot prevent the data from falling into their hands.

“Instead of trying to resolve the many issues Sri Lanka is grappling with, the current government is talking about irrelevant matters. They are spending time on matters such as taking over the official residence of a former head of state and removing security details. The government has forgotten the issue of the agreements signed with India as well as the ETCA agreement,” he added.
