Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Eranga Gunasekara, has been named as a suspect in the attack on former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s private residence on Fifth Lane, Kollupitiya, on 9 July 2022.

He is also accused of obstructing the fire brigade that responded to extinguish the fire.

Despite being summoned, Gunasekara did not appear before the Fort Magistrate’s Court when the case was heard yesterday (27).

His lawyer informed the court that the Deputy Minister was unable to attend due to an illness.

Lawyers for several other suspects in the case also informed the court that their clients were unable to attend.

However, the Magistrate issued arrest warrants for four individuals and ordered Deputy Minister Gunasekara to appear in court at the next hearing.
