Sri Lanka will hold long-delayed Provincial Council elections next year, Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Hearth told Parliament on Thursday (09).

Minister Hearth noted that discussions are underway to determine the electoral system under which the elections will be conducted.

He said the government is considering either the proportional representation system or a mixed electoral model, combining proportional and first-past-the-post elements.

The final decision on the voting methodology is expected to be made by the government before the elections are scheduled.
