FSP on deal struck for Colombo mayorship

It should be looked into why the National People’s Power (NPP) demanded a secret vote for the election of the Colombo mayor, said Frontline Socialist Party’s executive member Duminda Nagamuwa.

“Asking for a secret vote means there is an agreement that prevents an open vote. If groups have a certain agreement, they should be able to declare it openly,” he said.

With a secret deal present, the voters cannot vote openly and the candidate cannot declare who had supported her, said Nagamuwa.

“This secret vote has challenged the dialogue on political culture which they (the NPP) have initiated. This again has highlighted the deal politics,” he added.
