Samabima Party leader Deepthi Kumara Gunaratne finds nothing to be wrong in the SLPP functioning as a party, but notes inappropriateness for it to rally round a particular family.

In a discussion for ‘Ideas Front’ YouTube channel, he cited a case in point, in which Namal Rajapaksa sat on the ministerial seat instead of Rohitha Abeygunawardena, named Chamal Rajapaksa’s successor as the ports minister, and the ex-minister’s picture continued to remain on the wall over the chair.

Political critic Vipula Karunatilake joined in by saying the Mahinda Rajapaksa rule denied cabinet ministers the space to take direct decisions with regard to their ministries.

Also, every ministry secretary acted upon the wishes of the Presidential Secretariat, and not of the respective ministers, he said.

Video below has the full discussion, presented by Narada Bakmeewewa.
