The inaugural budget of the Dodangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, which is controlled by the National People’s Power (NPP) party, was defeated on Thursday (13).

The budget received 12 votes in favour and 13 votes against.

In the recent local government election, the National People’s Power secured 12 seats in the Dodangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, while the Common Opposition, led by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), secured 13 seats.

Accordingly, during the secret ballot held for the election of the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, two opposition councillors supported the NPP, resulting in an NPP member being elected as Chairman with 14 votes.

However, in the voting for the inaugural budget held today to pass the Council’s budget, the budget was defeated as it received 12 votes in favour and 13 votes against.
