The 2026 budget of the Kandaketiya Pradeshiya Sabha, administered by the National People’s Power (NPP), was defeated by a majority of four votes on Tuesday, following a unified stand by opposition members.
Six NPP councilors voted in favour of the proposed budget, while ten opposition councilors voted against it.
