A right-wing political group has expressed optimism over the appointment of attorney-at-law Thalatha Atukorale as the general secretary of the United National Party (UNP).

The ‘Dinana Dakuna’ Collective in a statement said it hopes the UNP prioritizes resolving internal divisions, encouraging young leaders to move up the ladder and bringing about a culture of accountability and innovation in the party under the guidance of its new general secretary.

Congratulating Athukorale on the appointment, the Collective said it believed her leadership would enable the party to become a stronger and more dynamic force to reckon with in the nation’s progress.

The Collective added that it was prepared to work together with the UNP and all other right-wing political activists to create a better future for Sri Lanka.
