The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has taken a significant step towards closer collaboration with the United National Party (UNP) by appointing a four-member committee to draft a proposal outlining potential coordination between the two parties.

Chief Opposition Whip and SJB MP Gayantha Karunathilake said that MPs Kabir Hashim, S.M. Marikkar, Mujibur Rahman, and former MP Eran Wickramaratne will serve on the committee tasked with formulating the plan.

The proposal is expected to be submitted to the SJB leadership for consideration.

The move follows a unanimous decision at the SJB’s Management Committee meeting, which agreed that while both parties should maintain their distinct identities, the SJB must take the lead in fostering joint efforts with the UNP.

The recommendation received unanimous approval from the party’s Working Committee last Thursday.
