Samarasinghe highlights record salary increase after taking over ‘bankrupt nation’

Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, announced in Parliament on Tuesday (04) that his government, which took over a bankrupt country five months ago, has implemented the largest salary increase in public service history. 

The salary hike, part of ongoing economic reforms, will see an allocation of Rs. 325 billion over the next three years.

Samarasinghe emphasized that this increase, which marks a significant step in the country’s recovery, was one of the first major achievements of the NPP government. 

He said that the move was aimed at improving the financial stability of public servants and boosting the economy in the wake of financial challenges.
