Police have so far failed to arrest two persons who had attempted to abduct a Tamil freelance journalist in Kilinochchi.

The duo had arrived in a black-coloured van and tried to abduct Murugiah Thamil Selvam at Kilinochchi town in the afternoon of 26 December as he had been returning from his workplace, the National Water Board.

As the attempt failed, they assaulted him and fled the scene.

According to area correspondents, police have been given details of one of the suspects.

The hospitalized man was visited by the police, who were told the driver of the van had been identified as a resident of Bharathapuram.

That person had abused Murugiah and another officer at the Water Board on the same morning.

Even by the 27th afternoon, police had not arrested the suspect.

A freelancer for ‘Virakesari’, ‘Thinakural’, ‘Uthayan’ and ‘Tamil Win’, Murugiah has been extensively reporting about drug trafficking and sand mining rackets in the area.
