The United National Party (UNP) has set a deadline of March 20 for the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to decide whether it will join forces with the UNP to contest for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) at the upcoming local government elections.

UNP chairman Wajira Abeywardena said senior members of his party have indicated that if the SJB agrees to extend the alliance to other local bodies, an official announcement could be made before the given deadline.
