The United National Party (UNP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will conduct election campaigns and political activities from the same platform in the future, says the General Secretary of the SJB, Ranjith Madduma Bandara.

He said this when asked if the UNP and the SJB were ready to merge.

Madduma Bandara also said that the two parties have taken a clear decision to form an alliance together.

Discussions between the UNP and the SJB to build a strong opposition began even before the last general election.

UNP members say that these discussions have been initiated with renewed vigour in response to the proposals made regarding the formation of strong right-wing camp in the face of the current social and economic crisis.
