The suspect arrested for sexually abusing a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital has told the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court that he was severely beaten and assaulted by police officers.

This statement was made when the main suspect was produced before Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya.

The Magistrate, noticing that the suspect was hunched over and appeared to be in discomfort, asked him to stand up straight and inquired about his condition.

In response, the suspect explained that his discomfort was due to the severe beating he had received from the police.

As a result, the Magistrate ordered the police to refer the suspect to a specialist judicial medical officer at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

The Court also granted the police permission to detain the suspect for 48 hours for further questioning.
